In May, Microsoft had announced the Surface Pro 3 and they told the world that this is the tablet that can replace everyone’s laptop. You may or may not agree with Microsoft but in my opinion, the Surface Pro 3 is really attractive. Now, Microsoft has brought the Surface Pro 3 to Malaysia and 27 other countries today. I would definitely like to give it a try if I had the chance.
The Surface Pro 3 has a larger and sharper screen and more importantly, a better aspect ratio that is great for both landscape and portrait mode. The new Surface Pen is more ergonomically friendly to your hands and provides quick access to OneNote as well on Surface from anywhere including the lockscreen by a click on the tip. The kickstand supports any angle up to 150 degrees. With the lighter and thinner body, the battery life is not sacrificed. The Surface Pro 3 can support up to 9 hours of battery life. In Malaysia, you can either buy or pre-order the tablet from resellers such as Thunder Match, Harvey Norman or other shops. The Surface Pro 3 is available with different specifications having different prices:
The price for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 in Malaysia is slightly higher than the price in the US according to the current currency conversion. This is not a good thing given that the price tag is not cheap. As much as I would like to have one, the price is a huge hurdle for me and since Microsoft tends to cut the price quite soon, I would wait if I wanted to buy one. The other thing you should take notice about is that there are reports on the i7 models facing overheating issues and the fix is yet to come.
A Surface just feels not complete without the Type Cover, which cost RM409. If you wanted to buy the Surface Pro 3, you should get the new Type Cover as it is the best companion for the tablet even though I understand that the asking price is not little. Speaking of accessories, the docking station will not be available until 12 September. A free Surface Pen will come along the tablet.
So are you interested on getting one? I am definitely the fan of Surface Pro 3 but given that my laptop is still working great and the price is too hefty, it seems that most likely I would skip this iteration.
