As announced by Apple’s senior VP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, during the launching event of two new iPads, iOS 8.1 update is available for download right now. The update will bring support for Apple Pay, which will be launched today in the US too. In case you miss it, Apple Pay is the Apple’s mobile payment standard which uses the NFC chip in the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. However, it will be available in the US only at launch.
iOS 8.1 will enable more Continuity capabilities. Continuity is a set of features for you to work seamless with your iPhone, iPad, Macs and Apple TV. This update will bring SMS support and instant hotspot in Macs so that you can read and reply your text messages and share your phone’s data connection.
The other features include the return of the camera roll and the access of iCloud Photo Library where your photos and videos can be shared among devices without downscaling. You can refer to the full change log below for more details:
The package size shown on my iPad 3 is just 68.7MB so the storage should not be a problem if you have installed iOS 8 previously. So are you getting it right now? As usual, we would advise you to wait for the response for early adopters so that we will not get into trouble.
