iOS 8 had been plagued by bugs for a long, long time and the updates brought by Apple previously are about introducing new features such as Apple Pay support, Apple Watch compatibility and others. The mobile operating system was full of bugs and the performance  is not as great as it was in iOS 7.1, especially for older devices. Fortunately, iOS 8.3 is set to change that.

For me, the best part of the iOS 8.3 update is the performance improvement. The launching speed and responsiveness of the applications are the most important of all. Apple also improve the  third party keyboards, Control Center, Wi-Fi, Safari tabs, keyboard shortcuts and others. There are tonnes of bug fixes to WiFi, Bluetooh, orientation and rotation, Messages, Family Sharing and others.

iOS 8.3 also brings some new features to the table. First of all you can connect your iPhone to Carplay wirelessly and you do not need the Lightning cable for that anymore (But who has CarPlay supported vehicles at the first place?). The Emoji keyboard now has a variety of skin tones for some icons and some new Emoji options for you to express yourself better. Other little things include new Siri languages, support of the new Photos app on Mac OSX and choice to allow free apps to be downloaded without password needed. The full change log is at the bottom of the post.

The update size is around hundreds of megabytes and like usual you can install the update over the air or via iTunes on your computer. The downloading and installing were smooth and effortless. After updating my iPad 3 (which is one of the oldest devices running iOS 8) to iOS 8.3,  I do see that iOS runs smoother. Switching apps and launching third party keyboards seem faster. The improvement is not very, very significant and I feel that it was faster on older iOS versions, I would prefer iOS 8.3 over iOS 8.2 anytime.

The new features are really insignificant to most people, but the enhancement and fixes brought along make the iOS 8.3 worthy. I really hoped that this would come sooner and I wish that there are more to come in the near future. Fed up of the buggy iOS? Get your update now!
